Walden Glen Pool Rules & Regulations


The Board of Directors has established these rules and regulations for the benefit and protection of all members and guests, to ensure safe and sanitary operation of the pool facilities and adjacent areas, and to provide enjoyable recreation for the members of the club and their guests. The Board of Directors may establish additional rules or modify these rules. All members should become familiar with these rules and regulations.
 
The pool is a great place to have fun. But it is also a place to keep safety in mind.

It is extremely important that each member review these rules.  Parents, we need your help to enforce these rules with your children.


Section I: Management

The Board of Directors has delegated to the Pool Manager the responsibility for day to day maintenance of order, safety and cleanliness in and around the pool area; for supervising the operating staff; and for proper enforcement of the Rules, Regulations, and Fees established by the Board of Directors. The Pool Manager or his/her representative is in full charge of the pool facility at all times.

 

Section II: Enforcement of Rules and Regulations

The Pool Manager and the Pool Management Staff have responsibility for the enforcement of rules and regulations; they will not tolerate unsafe or annoying behavior even if the individual is engaged in an otherwise permitted activity. Parents must make children aware of all rules and regulations. Children shall observe and obey the instructions of the Staff. Children and adults shall show them proper respect and cooperation. The Pool Management Staff has the authority to suspend pool privileges for a period not to exceed the remainder of the swimming day and one full day thereafter. The Pool Manager may recommend to the Board of Directors suspension for periods longer than one day. Members should refer grievances and complaints to the Director of Operations.

 

Section III: Scheduled Events; Closing for Maintenance

  1. A schedule of competitive swim and dive team events will be posted on the bulletin board at the pool entrance. Adult swimming activities will be permitted during dual dive meets; however, the pool may be closed at the discretion of the Dive Team Director. Saturday dual swim meets and Sunday dive meets may delay pool opening until approximately noon.

  2. The Pool Management Staff will close the pool if necessary to conduct maintenance. At such times, the Pool Management Staff will bar entrance to the pool enclosure unless an individual is authorized to enter by the Pool Manager.

  3. A schedule of social and other special events will be posted at least one week in advance. Members should frequently check the bulletin board and the pool web site (www.waldenglenpool.org) for such announcements.

 

Section IV: Identification and Admission to the Pool
  1. Each family or individual membership will fill out an application and or renewal form. The Pool Management Staff will maintain a membership database in the office and will admit persons whose names appear on a database. Database will show the following information:
    1. Membership number
    2. Names of all persons in the household
    3. Address
    4. Home and emergency (work) telephone numbers
    5. Ages of children
    6. Child care provider (if one is employed and is to accompany children of the family to the pool)
    7. Seasonal Guests

  2. An adult member of the household is one 18 years of age or older.

 

Section V: Guests and Parties

  1. The fee schedule for guests is listed above.
    1. "Seasonal guest" means a person permanently residing outside the Club's membership area, but who lives in the home of a Club member for the swimming season and is registered as a seasonal guest.
    2. Guest privileges consist of admission to and use of the Club's facilities by an authorized person who is not a club member. A MEMBER ASSUMES FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS OR HER GUEST(S).

  2. Members may purchase guest passes at the Pool Office by check payable to "Walden Glen Swim and Racquet Club." THE POOL MANAGEMENT STAFF WILL NOT ACCEPT CASH.

  3. Guests are subject to the same rules and regulations as members.

  4. At the discretion of the Pool Manager or his/her representative, non-swimming adult guests in street clothes may enter the pool without charge.

  5. To ensure access to the Pavilion, members wishing to use the Pavilion area for parties of 10 or more must make a reservation with the Director of Operations at least seven days in advance. The director will maintain a calendar listing all reservations and may set a limit of no more than two reservations on a particular day. A group's reservation entitles it to use the Pavilion and one of the grills for the time specified. It does not restrict other members from using the second grill, any tables left unused by the group, the soft drink machine or the snack bar. The Pavilion will not be reserved beyond 8:30 P.M. (7:30 P.M. on school nights) to allow for timely clean-up and departure.

 

Section VI: General Rules

  1. After 6:00 P.M., children under the age of 13 may not use the pool unless accompanied by an adult.

  2. Member parents may designate supervisory personnel (housekeepers, sitters, etc.) to accompany their children to the pool. Such supervisory personnel have pool privileges provided they are registered as the family's child care provider and only when accompanying those children.

  3. Children:
    1. Members from age 10 through 12 may be in the pool area alone until 6:00 P.M. provided that they have passed the prescribed basic swimming test.
    2. Members less than 10 years of age, and those 10 through 12 who have not qualified as swimmers, must be accompanied by a member 13 years of age or older.
    3. A person of 13 years of age or older must supervise children using the wading pool at all times. There is no lifeguard on duty for the wading pool.
    4. Children over the age of 6 may not enter the wading pool.
    5. Walden Glen observes a 10-minute rest period every hour in the main pool. After 6:00 P.M., the rest period may be suspended at the discretion of the Pool Management Staff when there are 15 or fewer swimmers in the pool. Children under the age of 16 will exit the main pool during this rest period.
    6. The designated lap lane is for lap swimming only.

  4. The cost of repairing deliberate damage to signs, regulations, decorations, equipment or ornamental plants will be charged to the responsible member parent. The Board may suspend pool privileges and may prosecute violators and trespassers.

  5. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited everywhere on the Club grounds, including the parking lot, except for authorized adult parties. Illegal drugs are always prohibited.

  6. Loud, abusive, or profane music and language are prohibited. The Pool Manager may suspend privileges for repeated violations.

  7. Food of any kind is prohibited on the pool deck.

  8. County regulations prohibit "animals, fowl, and pets" within the pool enclosure. This shall not apply to working dogs, such as seeing-eye dogs.

  9. Lawn and deck chairs and tables shall not obstruct free access to the bathhouse entrances and to the Pool Manager's office. Lawn and deck furniture belonging to the pool will remain in designated areas. A clear walkway will be maintained for four feet from the edge of the pool.

  10. Swimmers returning to the pool from the lawn areas must use foot showers.

  11. All injuries occurring on the premises must be reported to the Pool Management Staff.

  12. Loitering outside of the pool facility is not permitted.

  13. Neither the Club nor the Pool Management is responsible for the personal property of members or guests. Unclaimed articles will be disposed of, at the Board's discretion, after notice has been posted. Pool members may claim lost articles that were turned in by giving the Pool Management Staff a reasonably accurate description of the article.

  14. The Pool Management Staff is authorized to rope-off areas for certain age groups.

 

Section VII: Health and Safety Rules and Regulations

The Pool Management Staff shall have the final and conclusive authority to enforce all matters relating to health and safety; they may exclude any persons failing to observe health and safety rules.

  1. The staff is authorized to close the pool, including the deck and the Pavilion, whenever the manager on duty determines that closure is warranted by weather, health or safety conditions. Members are asked to cooperate in clearing the area quickly in these circumstances. Members are advised that the pool will close whenever lightning is seen or thunder heard on the deck. The pool will reopen approximately 30 minutes after the end of such inclement weather.

  2. County health regulations require all bathers to take a cleansing shower in the bathhouse before entering the pool.

  3. Glass containers, including baby bottles, are prohibited everywhere on Club property. Plastic bottles and aluminum cans are permitted on the pool deck; members are asked to notify staff immediately when drinks are spilled so the deck and the pool can be kept clean.

  4. Eyeglasses and sunglasses should be made of plastic or safety glass.

  5. Running, pushing, wrestling, causing undue disturbance, and boisterous or rough play in or about the pool area are prohibited. Playing in the bathhouse is prohibited.

  6. Chewing gum is not permitted in the pool area.

  7. Eating is permitted only in the lawn areas and the pavilion; smoking is permitted only in the designated smoking area. No smoking is permitted in the bathhouse, on the deck, in the pavilion, or in lawn areas not designated as a smoking area.

  8. Any person having an obvious skin disease, nasal or ear discharge, inflamed eyes, or communicable disease shall be excluded from the pool area.

  9. The use of approved life jackets, properly fitted and adjusted, may be permitted at the discretion of the Pool Management Staff. Lifeguards will check for proper fit and adjustment.

  10. Masks (plastic or safety glass), fins and snorkels may be permitted provided the user demonstrates an ability to use them properly.

  11. Spitting, spouting of water, spurting, blowing the nose, etc., into the pool or onto the pool deck are health violations and are prohibited.

  12. Families with small children are reminded that diaper changing on the deck or anywhere inside the fenced area around our pools is prohibited. The staff will strictly enforce this rule. A changing station has been provided in each bathroom for your convenience.

    If your child is not yet toilet-trained, or if anyone in your family has recently suffered from diarrhea, please take extra care to help us keep our pools clean and free of the e-coli contamination that has infested some pools elsewhere.

    Fairfax County health regulations require that we close and disinfect any pool contaminated with human waste. The disinfecting process can last all day, and in severe cases, it may be necessary to drain and refill the pool. In the case of the main pool, that would mean closure for several days and would cost the club several hundred dollars.

    Families with infants and toddlers are encouraged to use the baby pool to reduce the chance of an accident in the main pool. In both pools, INFANTS AND TODDLERS MUST WEAR APPROVED SWIM DIAPERS AND PLASTIC PANTS UNDER THEIR BATHING SUITS. Children in disposable diapers will not be permitted in either pool. Several brands of swim diapers are on the market, including Huggies and Little Koala. The staff has a limited supply of swim diapers and plastic pants for sale at the front desk. We understand that accidents can happen, particularly with very young children, but we ask that parents keep out of the pools any child who is overdue for a bowel movement or has had diarrhea within the previous seven days. Because of the inconvenience to everyone that goes with closing the pools, the staff may bar from the pools any child who has repeated accidents. Your cooperation and understanding are appreciated.

  13. Only swimsuits are allowed in the pool. Cutoffs and street shorts are not permitted at any time. Children in diapers and plastic pants are also required to wear bathing suits.

  14. The 2-1/2 to 3 foot shallow "L" is intended for the use of younger swimmers. The more exuberant activities of teens and pre-teens must be carried on in the main pool when conditions permit.

  15. Use of swimming aids (floats and rings), sponge rubber (Nerf-type) balls, and poolside basketball sets, and diving for objects are activities that are normally prohibited but which may be allowed by the Pool Management Staff as indicated below. Tire tubes are never permitted anywhere in the pool. Rafts are permitted only during authorized "raft" parties. Noodles are permitted, except in the diving well, but may be barred by the pool staff if used improperly.
    1. The Pool Management Staff may allow use of swimming aids (floats and rings with attached seat). Parents of children wearing such aids must be in the pool and within an arm's reach.
    2. The Pool Management Staff may allow use of sponge rubber (Nerf-type) balls when conditions permit and if the ball itself is not deteriorating.
    3. The Pool Management Staff may allow the use of poolside basketball sets if, in the judgment of the Pool Management Staff, they are used safely and if the enjoyment of the pool by other patrons is not unreasonably jeopardized. Shooting from the deck is unsafe and is prohibited.
    4. The Pool Management Staff may allow diving for approved diving targets only. Approved diving targets (rings) are available in the office. Stones, coins, keys, and other small objects may damage the pool coating, clog drains, or damage the pump. These objects may not be used as diving targets and should never be thrown into the pool.

  16. Ladders are installed to facilitate exiting the pool. It is dangerous to walk down a ladder facing the pool. Backing down a ladder (i.e., facing the ladder) is permitted so long as it does not interfere with a person exiting the pool.

  17. Aqua socks are permitted if put on at poolside.

  18. Water guns of all types are prohibited on Club property.

  19. Do not cross the lap lane except with permission of the lifeguard.

 

Section VIII: Rules Governing Diving

  1. Diving is permitted only in designated areas. Diving is prohibited wherever the depth of water is less than four feet. This shall not prohibit shallow racing dives by members of Walden Glen and opponents' swim teams during swim meets.

  2. The Pool Manager may close the diving boards when the pool is crowded in order that the membership and their guests may utilize the full area of the pool for swimming.

  3. Divers must quickly clear the area below the boards and proceed directly to and exit the pool from the nearest ladder.

  4. Do not dive until the previous diver has cleared the area below the boards and has reached a ladder.

  5. Dive only from the front of the board. Diving from the side of a board is dangerous and not permitted.

  6. Horseplay on a diving board is not permitted at any time.

  7. Only one person is permitted on a board at a time.

  8. Only one person is permitted on the ladder to a board at a time.

  9. Only one bounce per dive is permitted.

  10. When the boards are open, the only swimming that is permitted in the diving well is directly to a ladder.

  11. Masks, goggles and flotation devices are not permitted when going off the diving board.

  12. Divers must be able to swim unassisted across the dive well. They also must be able to go off the board and swim to the ladder without assistance from another person or from any floatation device.

 

Section IX: Tennis and Basketball Court Rules and Standards of Conduct

The following applies to all members of Walden Glen Swim and Racquet Club and their guests. Members shall observe the rules and are encouraged to urge violators to correct deviations from the rules and standards of conduct.

  1. Reasonable attire will be worn at all times. Tennis shoes only are permitted; no street shoes or other type of footwear is allowed.

  2. Tennis equipment only is allowed on the court.

  3. If others are waiting, players should limit play to the following: singles - one hour; doubles - one and one-half hours.

  4. Spectators must observe play from outside the courts. For safety reasons, children are allowed on the courts only if they are to play tennis.

  5. Members may reserve a court by signing up after 6:00 P.M. the preceding day. An individual may sign up only for one period of play. Cooperation is requested to allow maximum number of players to participate. If a player does not arrive within ten minutes of reserved time, the reservation will be canceled.

  6. Members 18 years of age and older and their guests have priority on Saturday and Sunday. This rule does not preclude an adult member from playing with a non-adult of his or her choice.

  7. Courts may not be reserved by players under 18 years of age from 6:00 P.M. until dark, Monday through Friday.

  8. Food, glass containers, and alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the courts. Players must clean up the courts before leaving the area.

  9. Pets are not allowed on the courts.

  10. Gates are to be locked after play is finished.

  11. Lights may be used until 10:00 P.M.

 

Section X: Parking and Driving

  1. Members are encouraged to walk to the pool whenever possible.

  2. Members and guests shall drive slowly and carefully on driveways and parking areas. Speed limit is 10 miles per hour. Pedestrians always have the right of way.

  3. Parking is prohibited in the circle in front of the bathhouse to provide access for emergency vehicles.

  4. Members are requested to drive carefully (15 MPH or less) on Harmon Place when approaching or leaving the Club.

  5. Members are requested to leave the pool area and parking lot promptly at closing time so that the Pool Management Staff may secure those areas.

  6. Bicycles must be parked in or near the bicycle rack.

  7. When Walden Glen hosts swim or dive meets, members are asked to park on Carrleigh Parkway to allow visitors to park in our lot.

  8. Skateboarding, inline skating, street hockey, etc., are not allowed in any areas of the club.

  9. Walden Glen is not responsible for damage to vehicles in the parking lot.
